FRESH SUMMER GARLIC HUMMUS
Quick, easy, and addictive!
Summer is quickly coming to an end, but there is still lots to look forward to. In this case, garlic!
Harvesting time varies depending on the climate you live in, but in the Pacific Northwest, August is usually when this flavorful bulb is ready to be dug from the ground and used in the preparation of many delicious meals. There are few things better than eating something you made from scratch, but preparing a meal with items from your garden has got to be one of them!
If you’re looking for a quick and easy recipe to freshen up your summer appetizer plate, this recipe is for you. It takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, and the only real clean up is your food processor. This healthy snack is full of protein and vitamins, and the garlic is amazing for heart health and your immune system! The ingredients are very affordable, which is a great reason to make this a staple at every get-together.
FRESH SUMMER GARLIC HUMMUS RECIPE
- Total Time: 10 min.
- 15 Oz Can Chickpeas
- 1/3 C. Tahini Paste
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1/4 C. Olive oil
- 2 Garlic cloves
- 1/4 Tsp Cumin
- 1 Tsp salt
- 3-4 Tbsp water
- Olive oil for garnish
- Paprika for garnish
- Place all ingredients except for the water in to the food processor. Process for about a minute until it’s smooth. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time. If you want the hummus a bit thinner, add an extra tablespoon of water. Add more salt or spices if desired.
- Scoop the hummus from the food processor and put it in to a bowl to serve. Drizzle a small amount of olive oil and add a pinch of paprika or pepper over the top to finish.
- Serve with crackers, pita, fresh veggies, or whatever else you want!
For a creamy texture, remove the skins from the chickpeas before blending. Keep refrigerated until ready to use. Use within one week from the date it was made.
GARNISH AND SERVE
Place your delicious creation in the bowl of your choice and garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and some fresh cracked pepper or paprika. Hummus is one of those things that most people just buy, but now you can impress your guests by telling them that you whipped it up from scratch!

I used Earth Safe® Kelp Meal in my garlic bed when I first planted the garlic bulbs to remineralize the soil as the plant grows, then in the following spring growing season, I used Earth Safe® Kelp to add potassium to help the plant grow larger before harvest.
